Academic Overview

USI strives to provide a Christian centered educational environment where students will be challenged, encouraged, and nurtured spiritually, academically, emotionally, socially, and physically through a variety of subjects and experiences.  Subject areas include bible, language arts, social studies, math, science, physical education, health, art, library skills, international languages, speech, music, and computer. We have modern classrooms, and up-to-date curriculum and state-of-the-art equipment. Classes are student-centered, teacher directed, with a strong emphasis on foundational skills.

The school has a heart for missions and has actively supported different missionaries and missionary projects. One indication of this has been our involvement in the Union School International Foundation each year, where for the last eight years, the school has consistently received an award to recognize its efforts as one of the top schools in the Philippines. We also endeavor to reach out in service, music and drama at the mission fields in ASEAN countries area.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten classes at USI provide a warm, nurturing experience focusing on the development of spiritual, social, and foundational academic skills. The students are exposed to a fascinating world of animals, people, and places that allow them to develop necessary language skills as well as to develop reading and writing readiness, eye-hand coordination, visual perception, as well as listening and thinking skills.  Each day includes Bible stories, songs, prayer, scripture reading, memory development, and character-building activities.

Our phonics based reading readiness program carefully sequences activities in letter recognition, letter sounds, vowel formation (long and short), consonant-vowel blends, and one-syllable words with one or two vowels. Children enjoy counting and participating in activities that introduce number concepts and the formation of numbers. Kindergarten is also a time to develop a love and appreciation for good poetry, music, art, and drama through new and traditional media that are important parts of our program.

Elementary School (1st – 6th Grade)

USI strives to collaborate with families in providing a Christian education in a safe, conducive environment that will assist parents in raising their children to exemplify Christ above all else.  Spiritual growth is nurtured within each child during regular times of sharing God’s Word through daily Bible classes, scripture, songs, hymns, prayer, assemblies, and a weekly chapel program.
Picture
Early independence in reading is achieved by emphasizing word analysis and comprehension with an intensive phonics-based program. In the early elementary grades, our program motivates students to learn with genuine early success in reading. We enrich the curriculum at all grade levels with award winning books. We believe that language is a gift from God; therefore, we have carefully developed a traditional grammar program, which builds confidence in the students’ capabilities in written and spoken language. Grammar is taught with the purpose of making clear to the students the orderly structure of their language and a picture of God’s plan for the world and for their lives.

Our students enjoy studying science and are thrilled to see the plan of God as it is revealed in His creation. The science program provides a solid foundation based on the Word of God and Christian principles.  The fundamental areas of study are life, earth/space, and physical sciences.

The mathematics program teaches the concepts of “numerical and proportional reasoning”; “algebraic reasoning, patterns and functions”; “geometry and measurement”; “statistics, data analysis, and probability”; with “problem solving and reasoning.”

The rise and fall of nations and individuals as they respond to God’s truth, is the focus of our Social Studies and geography programs in the elementary grades.  The fundamental areas of study are history, geography, citizenship, economics, and culture.

Physical education, health, music, art, foreign language and computer studies help complete a better-quality education with a Christian perspective.

Each of these areas of study is supported with an international curriculum, focusing on creative expression.

Guided discussion in all subject areas provides our students with an opportunity to extend their thinking skills and apply their learning in alternative situations.

High School (7th-12th)

USI strives to develop outstanding Christian citizens and leaders by participating in and promoting civic activity as we share Christianity with our community. We offer opportunities to develop leadership skills and to develop philosophies to become effective citizens within the framework of the Christian faith and its principles.  USI is committed to reach the world by embracing a Christian perspective that views other cultures and nations as a part of our mission. Our curriculum is focused on the academic and spiritual development of the student.
Picture
Our curriculum is focused on the academic and spiritual development of the student.  The Secondary School is departmentalized with individual subject, multiple teachers. The students progress through a balanced curriculum that stresses analysis and higher-level analytical and creative thinking skills in all core subject areas.

The secondary department is well staffed by highly qualified and registered secondary school teachers and where there are deficiencies in facilities often found in good schools, the staff make good use of off-site services and programmes. The school is committed to ACSI and participating students regularly achieve well above the international average. Although small in size in comparison to international secondary schools, the secondary department “punches well above its weight” producing graduates that are well-rounded, academically, socially and spiritually.

Special Activities

Field Educational Trips

Grade 9 and 10

A trip planned by both the teacher and the students all together. They will get to dictate which country and which region the trip would be done. It is a great opportunity for students to gain responsibility and bond amongst themselves; not to mention the great adventures they would experience in different countries.

Graduation Trip

Grade 12

A trip that is meant to be done before the graduation of the students. They will choose the location where they would want to create a final memorable moment of each other as USI students. Even the slightest detail will be planned by the students themselves such as budget planning, transportations, housings, and so on.

ASEAN Vision Adventure

Grade 10

As a journey that is planned for nearly a year, AVA(ASEAN Vision Adventure) requires significant dedications from the students. They will plan the trip with their instructors and practice dances, art, and plays for the fellowship they will develop in the nations they would reach out to. The result would be an experience that the students would never forget and a vision that will change their life forever.

Horse Back Riding Camp

Grade 11

Horse Back Riding is a great activity that requires a certain period of time to be done properly. After reaching grade 11, the students will go for a trip to develop this skill and to create a stronger bond amongst themselves.

Scuba Diving Camp

Grade 12

Having a scuba diving certificate could open up various unusual opportunities for the students such as a job in a marine exhibition. However, what is more significant is the fact that the students will witness a world that will broaden their perspectives. Just before the students graduate and reach out the society, USI will offer a great opportunity for the students to witness this new world with their friends, so that they would share yet another inspiring moment together.
